Living in a city such as Johannesburg there are lots of pollutants in the air, check out this study. This shows that energy generation is reduced by the presence of dust and particles in the air. 

We've had the opportunity to work with customers to gather statistics of energy generation before and after a clean. Customer 1 had solar panels that were installed 2 years ago, a significant amount of dirt deposits were present on the panels. Customer 2 had solar panels installed 6 months ago. The results clearly show an increase in energy generation.
